After almost four decades in the microphones of Televisión Española, Paloma del Río said goodbye this Sunday for the last time, narrating the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup, which was held in Valencia. A pioneer in the world of sports journalism, the broadcasts of both artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, as well as those of figure skating and horse riding, will no longer be the same.
The veteran journalist announced her retirement a couple of years ago and in 2021 she broadcast her last Olympic Games. In that goodbye to that important competition in her career, Del Río and Almudena Cid already ended up crying after the team final. On this occasion, the legend of Spanish journalism received a standing ovation from the entire pavilion and the journalist, visibly moved, did not hesitate to get up and thank her teammates and the public present for their expressions of affection.
Social networks have also been filled with comments thanking the work of Paloma del Río for so many years. “Referrer! Thank you, Paloma, for everything we have learned about the sport in your broadcasts and for breaking down so many doors,” wrote a user. “Thank you, Dove. For your impeccable work, for becoming a fan of sports that were in the minority and for teaching us so much. Sports broadcasts without your voice will no longer be the same”, another citizen has praised on Twitter.
