“The Government will work so that Rubiales does not lead Spanish football again”

The acting Minister of Finance and Public Function, Maria Jesus Monterohas assured this Sunday that the Government will work so that the suspended president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, “do not direct Spanish football again”.

“Mr. Rubiales cannot go back to directing soccer in this country. A person who liesa person who has made a show of not having understood what the fight for equality means in an area as important as sport cannot have the direction of football in this country in his hands”, Montero stressed in a statement forwarded to the media.

In addition, it has made ugly the president of the Popular Party (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóothe fact that in his speech in Pontevedra he did not speak on this matter.

“We have not heard any word of condemnation of Mr. Rubiales. He has once again wanted to put himself in profile in a policy in which he has alliances with Vox and which are also harming the debate in society regarding the fight for equality and against any form of of aggression and gender violence”, lamented Montero.

“It would be good if in his words and in his mouth Mr. Feijóo condemned the attitude of Mr. Rubiales, as the vast majority of political leaders have done. Of course, without having counted on the opinion of Mr. Abascal, nor with the opinion of Mr. Feijóo, because they probably have a problem when it comes to expressing their own vision of these events”, he added.

The acting minister, who congratulated the players of the Spanish women’s soccer team for their victory in the World Cup, also emphasized the need to end gender violence.

“Not one more day. It’s over, it’s over for sexist violence to be an element that is normalized by someone. It’s over to understand that certain gestures are possible with girls but not with boys. It’s over that of somehow the resounding victory of women’s football is tarnished with attitudes that are intolerable and that we are not going to allow them again,” he stressed.
