The baccalaureate imagined by Jean-Michel Blanquer will only have lived for a year (with the Covid crisis, the 2023 session was the first to follow the reform to the letter), as explained The Parisian. Thus, the anticipated tests, that is to say the two main subjects chosen by the final year student, will no longer take place in March, as had been imagined by Jean-Michel Blanquer, but in June. This decision applies from this start of the school year.

This choice, made by Emmanuel Macron, responds to a request from teachers but also from parents of students, who deplored the absence in class, from the start of the third quarter, of a significant proportion of high school students. The new schedule of events was confirmed by the new Minister of National Education, Gabriel Attal, on TF1 on Sunday evening.

“There has been progress with the reform of the baccalaureate, but you have to be pragmatic and look at what works and what does not work”, summed up Gabriel Attal. “There will be no massive modification of the Parcoursup calendar”, he further specified.

The riots at the origin of this choice?

The government would also have made the link between the growing absenteeism of final year students and the presence of certain young people in the riots that punctuated the country in June.

Restoring the tests in June was also not the only solution put on the table by Emmanuel Macron. The President of the Republic, who wishes to invest more in education, had initially thought of increasing the coefficient of the June tests, namely the great oral and philosophy.
