The country is preparing to experience a week full of demonstrations against the government of Gustavo Petro. Over the next few days, Colombians will march against the price of gasoline and the current conditions of the education sector.

To begin with, the marches this Monday are called by the country’s transport unions and seek to protest the constant increases in the price of fuel during this year.

Said rate increases were announced and implemented by the Petro Government in an effort to close a fiscal gap derived from the gasoline subsidy that had been implemented since previous governments.

For its part, the Inter-United Transport Chamber, better known as UNIDOS, announced that it will participate in the conference because current prices are particularly affecting cargo carriers and terminal bus operators, who, according to them, have noticed decreases in its profitability

“For those who insist that the rise in the price of Gasoline only affects the rich, I leave you the testimony of the inhabitants of Tierra Bomba Island: “we used to buy a gallon of water for $700 and now it is worth $1,400” because transportation became more expensive . See you this #28A in the streets”, wrote the representative to the House, Jennifer Pedraza, one of the congresswomen who has been supporting the demonstrations.

But, where will the meeting points be and where will the marches this Monday pass through?

According to the calls, the main concentrations will be located like this Bogotá, in the Virgilio Barco Library and on Calle 13 for cargo transportation; Cali, in the Parque de las Banderas; Medellín, at Zero Point; Bucaramanga, in Puerta del Sol and Mesón de los Bucaros; Floridablanca, in Abadías; Girón, in Puente Flandes; Pasto, in Chapultepec; Villavicencio, at the Porfia Service Station; Cúcuta in the Plaza de Banderas next to the General Santander Stadium and Cartagena, in the Amparo pump.

There is also a strike next Wednesday

After these demonstrations, the Colombian Federation of Education Workers, Fecode, prepares a national strike that will last 24 hours.

According to the Federation, the demonstrations were called for “failures in the teachers’ health service” and for bills that, according to them, go “against their rights.”

The latter has to do with the bill presented by the opposition and which seeks for education to be considered as “an essential right.” According to the teachers, giving it that qualifier would prevent them from holding marches or any type of demonstration.

For these marches, Fecode’s slogans will be “no to school bonds” and no to the “privatization of public education.”

According to the information published through their social networks, for this date there are still no established meeting places. However, large mobilizations are expected in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Bucaramanga and Barranquilla.
