7.0-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indonesia’s Bali Sea, No Tsunami Threat

Early this morning, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported that a 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia’s Bali Sea. The epicenter of the quake was located 201 kilometers north of Mataram, Indonesia, with a depth of 518 kilometers below the Earth’s surface, as stated by the seismological center.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake registered as a 7.1 on the Richter scale. The quake occurred near Bangsal, in the region of West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, at a depth of 525 kilometers below the epicenter.

Despite the significant magnitude of the quake, the US Tsunami Warning System has assured the public that there is no tsunami threat resulting from the undersea earthquake.

Indonesia, located in the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire, is no stranger to earthquakes. The archipelago experiences frequent seismic activity due to its position on the boundary of several tectonic plates.

Seismologists and experts from various organizations will likely be monitoring the situation for any possible aftershocks or damages in the affected regions.
