After problems with British air traffic control, air travelers to and from Great Britain must continue to expect disruptions on Tuesday. The National Air Traffic Services (NATS) authority said on Monday evening that it would be “some time” before air traffic returned to normal. Britain’s largest airport, London Heathrow, warned on Tuesday night on the social network X, formerly Twitter, that flight schedules were still “significantly disrupted”. Air travelers should contact their airline before traveling to the airport.
Meanwhile, the second largest airport, London Gatwick, said it was planning to offer a “normal flight schedule”. Nevertheless, travelers should check with their airline about the status of their flight before arriving at the airport.
Hundreds of flights had previously been canceled due to “technical problems” with British air traffic control. As the BBC reported on Monday, citing the aeronautical analysis company Cirium, a good 270 landings and more than 230 take-offs were canceled. Then, in the afternoon, NATS said the issue affecting its flight planning system had been “identified and fixed.”
