84% of French people have a good image of rugby, a friendly sport (80%) and which according to them highlights the collective (88%) according to this survey carried out with a panel of 2092 French people last June. 58% of French people also plan to follow the World Cup in September: this is 19 points more than what was recorded for the last Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019, 12 points more than for the Rugby Cup. football world in Qatar in 2022 and even 6 points more than those planning to follow the Paris Olympics in 2024, specifies Odoxa.

60% of rugby fans believe in winning

The chances of the XV of France, which has never won the supreme title in 9 editions and which is this year among the favorites, contribute to feeding this enthusiasm: 60% of rugby fans think that the Blues will win this World Cup home.

Rugby is also a way to bond, according to several responses to this survey. “While 6 out of 10 French people believe they lack a bond and “live together” on a daily basis, major sports competitions, such as the Rugby World Cup, are an opportunity for them to strengthen ties (64%). Indeed, for 79% of French people who will follow the competition, the World Cup will be an opportunity to experience moments of conviviality, ”we analyze at Odoxa.

In fact, the French who intend to follow the 2023 World Cup will do so mostly collectively (53%). It will obviously be above all with family or friends (52%), but also in bars or places of conviviality (16%), at the stadium (7%) or even in fan-zones (7%). Young people will be more fans of these different places of conviviality to follow the competition, while the majority of people aged 65 and over will be alone at home (63%).
