This Tuesday, the head of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, has confirmed that he will present himself as a candidate for Lehendakari in the next regional elections in the Basque Country as long as his party so wishes. In this sense, he has indicated that Bildu intends to lead the Government of Euskadi “without anxieties or special obsessions or special haste”.
This was expressed in an interview for Radio Euskadi. In it, Otegi has indicated that, if the members of his political formation so wish, he will be a candidate for Lehendakari, although he has qualified that he will make that decision “depending on whether he is good or not.”
Otegi assures that he does not conceive the non-existence of the PNV
On the other hand, he has asserted that his party seeks to win the elections in the three historical territories of the Basque Country. “There are people in the country who try to project the idea that EH Bildu’s fang is getting too long because he wants to evict a certain party (PNV) from a certain institution,” he pointed out, to later add that they see no sense in a “future of this country without the existence of a Basque national center-right party such as the PNV”.
“We do not know if there are people in the PNV who think that this country can be built without the existence of the pro-independence left, probably yes, but we do not conceive of a country without other social and political sectors, and in this case from the point of view of from a nationalist point of view, without there being a center right, a center left. Now they have a debate about what they are in this country, united around the PNV”, he remarked.
Along these same lines, he has stated that they intend to lead the autonomous community, although they have clarified that they have “neither anxieties nor special obsessions nor special haste”. Likewise, the leader of Bildu has emphasized that “the important thing is not the candidate, but what they want to do with the country.”
“And I think that it is evident in the last months and years in this part of our nation, in these three territories, the problems are of such magnitude that they can no longer be hidden. People know that there is a problem in Osakidetza, that there are problems in education, people know and it is already known that there are problems with the police model, people know that there is an obvious problem with the rights of women, and with care for the people, which are not regulated in terms of public services “, he has sentenced.
