Chennai Minister Senthil Balaji Files Bail Petition in Money Transfer Prohibition Case

Chennai District Principal Sessions Court is set to hear the bail petition of Minister Senthil Balaji, who was arrested by the Enforcement Department under the Unlawful Money Transfer Prohibition Act. The Minister was apprehended on June 14 in connection with the case.

According to sources, a comprehensive case file of 3,000 pages and a chargesheet spanning 120 pages have been filed against Senthil Balaji. Seeking relief from the court, the minister’s bail application has been submitted in the District Principal Sessions Court.

In his plea, Balaji stated, “When the case was registered in 2021, the Enforcement Department investigated for three days. Now, as per the order of the Supreme Court, it has been remanded for five days and interrogated. A chargesheet has also been filed. However, there is no basis for the allegations made against me. Considering my physical condition, as I am undergoing heart surgery, bail should be granted. I am willing to comply with any conditions imposed by the court.”

Senthil Balaji’s senior advocate N.R. Ilango appeared before Judge S. Alli yesterday and submitted the bail application. He stressed the urgency of the matter and requested that it be investigated promptly.

Responding to the plea, Judge Alli stated, “I want to ascertain if I have the authority to hear the bail plea. A number will be assigned to the petition, and it will be included in the inspection list.”

The bail plea is expected to be listed for hearing either today or tomorrow. The court will assess the merits of the case and make a decision accordingly. Minister Senthil Balaji’s legal team remains hopeful that their client will be granted bail, taking into account his health condition as well as the lack of substantial evidence against him in the alleged unlawful money transfer case.
