Yesterday, the President of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, Judge Ricardo C. Pérez Manrique, together with the Plenary of the Court and the Deputy Secretary, received the President of the Republic of Colombia, His Excellency Mr. Gustavo Petro Urrego, at the headquarters.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Álvaro Leyva Durán, the Minister of Justice and Law, Néstor Osuna Patiño, the Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia in Costa Rica, Carlos Rodríguez Mejía, the Director of the Department Administrative Officer of the Presidency of Colombia, Carlos Ramón González, the Legal Secretary of the Presidency of the Republic, Vladimir Fernández, and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francisco Coy Granados.

During the meeting, President Petro took the opportunity to talk with the Judges of the Court about the importance of the Inter-American Human Rights System for the countries of the region and the fundamental role that the Inter-American Court has in defending human rights. humans. Likewise, he reaffirmed Colombia’s commitment to mandatory compliance with the judgments issued by the Court.

For his part, the President of the Inter-American Court reiterated the historical role of Colombia in the Inter-American Human Rights System and the development of international human rights law, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the American Declaration of Human Rights. and Duties of Man in the city of Bogotá.
