Zorlu Töre, President of the Assembly of the Republic, published a message on the occasion of August 30 Victory Day.
Tore stated the following in his message:
“We proudly celebrate the 101st anniversary of the August 30 Victory, a struggle where heroism became epic with patriotism, the spirit of independence and freedom, and the determination to win.
Symbolizing that no power can stand in the way of unity and solidarity, and with this great victory that opened the way to the establishment of the Republic of Turkey and resulted in the proclamation of the Republic, the Turkish nation rejected captivity and declared to the world that it would never compromise its independence and freedom. It has shed light and inspired the nations struggling.
August 30 is a victory of the Turkish Nation’s struggle for independence. This victory was won with Atatürk’s belief of “Either Independence or Death”.
On the anniversary of this glorious victory, we commemorate our Great Leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, all his comrades in arms, the Anatolian people and all the heroes of the struggle for independence with gratitude, love and respect, and wish mercy to our martyrs. I sincerely congratulate the members of the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces Command and the Security Forces Command on the Victory Day.”
