The ten-story elevator is running again – but fear remains a companion

by time news

Berlin – The only elevator in the ten-story building at Märkische Allee 238 in Marzahn did not work for three weeks – and the tenants were not sure when it would be operational again. On Wednesday of this week, when the Berliner Zeitung reported on the case, things went very quickly. Tenant Thomas Herrenfeld found out in the afternoon that the elevator was working again. “It’s good that the elevator is running again,” he says. “It would have been nice if it had been faster.”

Thomas Herrenfeld’s mother got stuck in the elevator on December 14th. After that, the elevator was put out of service. Attempts to repair were unsuccessful. The tenants learned from a notice that there were delivery problems with the material they had ordered for the repair. Thomas Herrenfeld’s mother, who is unable to walk, never left her apartment on the ninth floor in the whole time. Her son went shopping for her. For the pensioner, who will celebrate her 70th birthday this Friday, the old order has not yet been restored with the repair of the elevator. She is “increasingly afraid to get back in the elevator,” reports Thomas Herrenfeld.

After all: Degewo has promised a rent reduction for the time of the elevator failure. “I’m curious to see how accommodating Degewo is now,” says Thomas Herrenfeld.
