Listen: the earth has been torn apartdirected by Cassandra Mello and Fred Rahal, opens on September 5th, at 7 pm, the 12th Eco-speaker Film Festival, at Cine Brasília, in the federal capital.

The screening of the film will be followed by a debate with Yanomami leader and shaman Davi Kopenawa, Julio Ye’kwana, president of the Wanasseduume Ye’kwana Association (Seduume) and Maial Paiakan, Kayapó leader.

Released in June, as part of the Eco-Factor Cinema Show in São Paulo, the production will have another screening in the federal capital on September 12, also with a debate. Watch the trailer:

Recorded between the end of 2021 and 2022, the film records the birth of the Alliance in Defense of the Territories, formed by leaders of the Kayapó, Yanomami and Munduruku peoples, and articulation meetings in the three Indigenous Lands – the most affected by the destruction of illegal mining. According to the dossier “Terra Rasgada: how mining advances in the Brazilian Amazon”launched by Aliança in March, mining in these territories skyrocketed by 495% between 2010 and 2020.

In the Yanomami Indigenous Land alone, illegal activity grew by more than 300% from October 2018 to December 2022, as recorded by the study We are still suffering: an assessment of the first months of the Yanomami emergencywhich will be relaunched in Brasília before the session on 09/12 (learn more below).

“It is a narrative about resistance and resilience, in the form of an unprecedented union that establishes the maintenance of their physical and subjective territories. In addition to the destruction caused by mining, this is a film about the impossibility of separating indigenous existence from their territory”, says the film’s description.
