The first damage was visible as soon as it hit the ground. On Wednesday, at 7:45 a.m. (1:45 p.m. French time), hurricane Idalia reached the American coast near Keaton Beach, in northwest Florida. With winds of up to 205 km/h, it qualified as a Category 3 hurricane, after being feared as a Category 4 hurricane by the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The institute stressed that the change in wind speeds did not diminish “the threat of coastal submersion and violent gusts” and “potentially deadly”.

This hurricane is “powerful and if you are at home, take shelter until it passes,” warned Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Impressive gusts of wind, cities under water, tides flooding the coast… Back in pictures on the damage caused by Idalia in the southeastern United States.
