The holidays are over, and like every year, back to school is coming with its share of new things. For some, it’s the start of the youngest child at school, for others, a change of job, for many, the return to everyday life with its share of routines and little hassles. However, September 1 also marks the coming into force of several changes, of which here are the main ones.

Top start for pension reform

This is THE big piece of the new school year, with the start of the gradual postponement of the legal age and the beginning of the end for special diets. Concretely, the first effect of the reform, the natives of 1961 will have to wait from September 62 years and 3 months to leave, and will need to have validated 169 quarters to have a pension at full rate (against 168 previously).

The legal age will then increase by one quarter per generation – on January 1st – until it reaches 64 for the 1968 generation. With the acceleration of the Touraine law, the number of quarters necessary for a full rate will increase by its side at the rate of one additional quarter per year, up to 172 quarters from the 1965 generation.

As for special diets, the rule is simple: no change for those who were hired before September 1st. On the other hand, all those who will be hired from this date at the RATP, in the electricity and gas industries, at the Banque de France as well as with the clerks of notaries will be affiliated to the general scheme. This is the famous “grandfather clause”, which will eventually lead to the disappearance of these plans.

Also note that the lowest retirement pensions will be increased from 1 September. The minimum pension in particular will increase by 100 euros per month. The September pension being paid at the beginning of October, it will however be necessary to wait for this date to see the difference on the bank account.

The conditions for starting gradual retirement are also changing and it will be open in particular to civil servants and liberals, with a possible departure from 62 years and three months.

More expensive contractual terminations

This is also the consequence of the pension reform. The employer, in the event of conventional terminations, will have to pay a social package of 30% instead of 20% in most cases. This therefore amounts to increasing the cost of such a breach of contract for companies.

End clap for self-service scooters in Paris

Following a citizen vote organized by the Paris City Hall in April, self-service scooters will no longer be no longer available in the streets of Paris . The contracts of the 3 operators present in the capital come to an end this Thursday. The scooters must therefore be stored the same evening.

Better paid teachers

The start of the school year marks the entry into force of the increase in teachers’ salaries. Teachers will benefit from a “remuneration increase of nearly 100 euros net per month”, according to the Ministry of National Education. To this will be added the bonuses that will be received by teachers who accept new missions, such as replacement or homework assistance.

· Upgraded student grants

The start of the academic year is placed this year under the sign of inflation. Consequently, the government announced a gesture in favor of the most precarious. The scholarships will increase from 37 to 127 euros per month depending on the levels. Some 35,000 additional students will also be eligible for a grant based on social criteria.

Vaccination against the papillomavirus offered at college

From September and throughout the year, each schoolboy and schoolgirl should be offered vaccination against the papillomavirus in their school. Recommended for boys since 2019 after having been for girls, this vaccine is intended for all adolescents aged 11 to 14, with a possible catch-up for 15-19 year olds, even up to 26 years old in some cases.

An update of the withholding tax rate

It is now a routine. Like every September 1, Bercy will update the personalized levy rate communicated to the employer of taxpayers subject to income tax. For this, the Direction des finances takes the 2022 revenues declared last spring. Note that it is always possible to modulate your own deduction rate on the impots.gouv.fr website.

The benchmark gas price down

Since the end of regulated gas sales tariffs, the Energy Commission has published a “benchmark price”, which sheds light on the choices of consumers who are negotiating a new supply contract. As of September 1, the variable part excluding taxes (HT) for a typical cooking/hot water and heating consumer is reduced by 1.56 euros per MWh.
