A little over a month ago, Yamaha UK surprised everyone at the Goodwood Festival by unveiling a handsome retro concept car based on their naked XSR 900. Christened as DB40 -in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Deltabox chassis-, this interesting concept took advantage of the three-cylinder engine of the XSR and its Deltabox aluminum chassis to give life to a sports bike with a marked 90s character, with square and straight shapes that are clearly inspired by the TZR saga, specifically to the latest versions of the 250 cc model.

Now, as reported by Young Machine magazine, internal Yamaha sources seem to have confirmed that this prototype presented at Goodwood will end up reaching production very soon, and it will do so by adopting two possible names: or that of TZR 900 to pay homage to the rabid sporting two-strokes from Iwata’s signature, or perhaps using the nomenclature XSR 900 GP so as not to stray too far from Yamaha’s current model lineup.

In its naked version, the XSR 900 has proven to be a formidable bike; The combination of a powerful 890 cc three-cylinder engine with 119 hp together with its characteristic Deltabox chassis and a chassis consisting of a KYB adjustable front fork and radial brake calipers result in A very easy bike to ride and tremendously funa package in which the most technological side of Yamaha is not lacking with piloting aids that include tilt-sensitive traction control, the SCS slip control system, the LIF anti-wheelie system, and a six-axis IMU responsible for managing everything.

Well then, all these characteristics will remain intact in this future TZR 900 or XSR 900 GP, but with the added attraction of adopting a more radical and sporty stance thanks to the entry of new clip-on handlebars and a semi-fairing reminiscent of the shapes of the Yamaha TZR 250 at the front, including a small front headlight that, thanks to Full-LED technology, will provide good lighting.

This future TZR 900 will not be the only novelty with which Yamaha will surprise us at the end of this year; according to the same source cited by Young Machine, The Japanese brand will also launch its long-awaited YZF-R9 before Decembera purely racing model that will also be based on the MT-09 chassis and engine set (the same as the XSR 900) to fill the gap that currently exists between the 75-hp R7 and the 200-hp YZF-R1 , a space that until recently was owned by the YZF-R6, already condemned exclusively to the circuit as it had not been adapted to the Euro5 regulations.

If we start from the current price of the XSR 900, 11,999 euros in Spain, it is possible that its sports sister will end up reaching our market at a price that would be around 13,000 eurossignificantly cheaper than one of its main rivals in this segment, the MV Agusta Superveloce with 147 hp and a retail price of 23,765 euros.
