There will be no changes to the 2024 selectivity tests. Students will continue with the same model for one more year. The Government will delay the reform of the Baccalaureate Assessment for University Access (EBAU) for one year. The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training directed by Pilar Alegría in office has already transferred the decision to the autonomous communities in a telematic meeting.

As the Executive is in office, the new access test cannot be carried out. It is delayed for a year despite being “completely completed the processing of the royal decree of the selectivity test. The person in charge of communicating the decision to the communities has been the Secretary of State for Education, José Manuel Bar.

Likewise, the Ministry of Universities met this Thursday at 11:30 am with representatives of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE). It was planned that the new selectivity test would begin to be carried out in 2024 so that in 2028 this model would already be consolidated. The Ministry of Education considers that the “most logical” thing is to postpone the exam so that the new Government can carry it out.

How is the new selectivity test?

The royal decree on the new selectivity exam establishes that the maturity test and multiple choice questions are eliminated. In addition, the time for carrying out the exercises increases since, as justified by the Ministry, “the reading of the exercise, its analysis and production are taken into account”. Students will have 15 more minutes of time in each exam in the new selectivity.

The Baccalaureate grade will be counted with 60% and with 40% that of the exams of common subjects and modality. Students will be able to do two exercises to raise a grade and the two highest grades obtained will be taken. Meanwhile, many teachers have shown their concern because they argued that they were not sure how the exams would be carried out and, therefore, how they should prepare their students. The postponement “attends to the request for a one-year moratorium by the university authorities and reduces the uncertainty of teachers, students and families.”
