Giants Complete Practice Squad Roster with Six New Additions

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The New York Giants have filled their practice squad roster by adding six new players and removing two, according to official announcements made today. The team has reached the 16-player limit on their practice squad with these new signings.

The newcomers include running back Taiwan Jones, cornerback Kaleb Hayes, wide receiver Dennis Houston, tight end Tyree Jackson, guard Jalen Mayfield, and tackle Jaylon Thomas. None of them have previous connections to the Giants, making this a fresh start for all.

Among the additions, Jones stands out as the most accomplished player. With 137 regular-season games and 10 postseason contests under his belt, Jones brings valuable experience to the team. He has previously played for the Oakland Raiders, Buffalo Bills, and Houston Texans. Jones had a number of rushing attempts, receptions, kickoff returns, and special teams tackles throughout his career.

Hayes, a rookie free agent initially signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars before being waived, brings depth to the cornerback position. With 67 tackles and 19 pass breakups in his college career, Hayes is eager to prove himself in the NFL.

Houston, who played for the Dallas Cowboys in two games last season, joins the Giants after spending time on the Cowboys’ practice squad. Standing at 6-1 and 198 pounds, Houston showcased his skills with two catches for 16 yards in the season opener against Tampa Bay.

Jackson, a former collegiate quarterback, was converted to tight end after entering the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Buffalo Bills. He made his NFL debut with the Philadelphia Eagles and caught three passes for 22 yards, including a touchdown, in the season finale against the Dallas Cowboys in 2022.

Mayfield, a former third-round draft pick for the Atlanta Falcons, started all 16 games at left guard during the 2021 season. Unfortunately, a lower back injury kept him out of action for the entire 2022 season. He was released by the Falcons and subsequently picked up by the Giants.

Thomas, an undrafted rookie who recently spent time with the Baltimore Ravens, played all five offensive line positions during his college career at SMU. With extensive experience and versatility, Thomas hopes to contribute to the Giants’ offensive line.

On the other hand, tackle Tyre Phillips and cornerback Gemon Green were terminated from the Giants’ practice squad. Phillips, who started multiple games for the Giants last season, provided valuable depth on the offensive line. Green, a rookie free agent, now looks for a new opportunity in the NFL.

Overall, the Giants have made significant changes to their practice squad roster, adding depth and talent to various positions. These new additions will be eager to make their mark and contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
