Title: Los Angeles County Sees Doubling COVID-19 Cases, No Immediate Changes to Safety Measures
Los Angeles County, California – In a recent press conference, officials from the Los Angeles County Public Health Department revealed a concerning increase in COVID-19 cases in the region. Over the past few weeks, the county has witnessed a doubling of daily case numbers, causing alarm among residents and health experts.
Four weeks ago, the average daily cases stood at approximately 264. However, officials now report an average of 571 cases per day, signifying a worrying trend. Despite this surge, authorities emphasized that these numbers are still relatively low compared to previous years. Furthermore, they assured the public that no immediate changes to recommendations or requirements were planned.
Barbara Ferrer, the Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, stated, “There’s nothing that’s changed. We’re not announcing new safety measures today.” However, when asked about the possibility of reinstating mandatory mask-wearing, Ferrer refrained from providing a definitive answer.
Ferrer explained, “Ever’ is not a word I’m comfortable with. There’s not that level of certainty with this pandemic. I’m never going to say there’s not going to be a time when we all need to put our masks back on. I am going to say we certainly don’t all need to put our masks back on now. We are at a place where people make their own assessment.”
During the press conference, particular attention was given to recent outbreaks in schools and workplaces. It was also revealed that businesses experiencing outbreaks are still required to enforce mask-wearing protocols. Ferrer stated that temporary mask mandates are standard practice for workplaces facing potential spread.
Ferrer clarified, “If there’s an outbreak, our team goes in and makes an assessment. If it seems like there’s a lot of spread or potential for a lot of spread, masks are generally required… It usually lasts until we close the outbreak.” She added that this practice typically ends after 14 to 20 days when no new cases associated with the initial outbreak are reported. However, if multiple stories are present in a business, only individuals on the affected floor would be required to wear masks.
The recent temporary mask mandate at Lionsgate’s Santa Monica office, which covered two floors, was lifted after a few days, as per a recent report by Deadline.
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Los Angeles County, officials urge residents to remain vigilant, practice social distancing, and follow all safety guidelines. While no immediate changes have been announced, the situation remains fluid, and individuals should be prepared for adjustments in safety measures.
