Rampage attack at the Maccabim checkpoint: A Palestinian truck driver carried out a rampage attack today (Thursday) in which a 20-year-old IDF soldier was killed, and 5 others were injured, including one moderately-severely, and the rest lightly. Three of the five injured are IDF soldiers.
The terrorist, 41 years old with a work permit in Israel, fled towards the Hasmonaim Crossing – a name neutralized by the IDF forces. At this point, the crossing was closed to traffic.
MDA medics and paramedics who were called to the scene gave the wounded medical treatment and evacuated them to the hospital. At this time, the security forces are conducting scans in the area, for fear of finding another terrorist or an aide.
The IDF spokesman confirmed that three of the victims in the incident are IDF soldiers. The terrorist, who was driving a truck, continued his journey towards the Hasmonaim crossing and was neutralized by the security guards of the Ministry of Defense. One of the fighters was seriously injured, two others were slightly injured, their families were informed.
The police stated that “a report was received of a run-over incident near the Maccabim checkpoint with several casualties, when the truck driver fled and was neutralized near the Hasmonaim checkpoint.” The Ministry of Defense added: “The terrorist who carried out the attack fled in the direction of the Hasmonaim Crossing. The security guards of the Ministry of Defense’s Crossings Authority at the Hasmonaim Crossing were prepared following information they received from the IDF, identified the terrorist and neutralized him. There are no other casualties.”
MDA paramedic Avi Schiff said: “We arrived at the scene with large forces and saw 3 young men, one of them unconscious and suffering from stomach and head injuries. We immediately gave them life-saving medical treatment in the field and evacuated them in intensive care vehicles to the hospital, with one in critical condition, one in serious condition and the third in mild condition.”
The attack at the Maccabim checkpoint comes against the background of IDF forces’ activity last night in Nablus, during which four soldiers were injured and against the background of the stabbing attack that happened last night in Jerusalem.
Tonight, an officer and three IDF soldiers were slightly and moderately injured during an operation to secure the entrance of worshipers to the Joseph’s Tomb complex on the outskirts of Nablus. During the operation, the regular force passed near an explosive device, which was activated and exploded. After treatment at the medical center, two of the injured soldiers were released to their homes.
Earlier yesterday, a 14-year-old terrorist from Beit Hanina tried to stab passengers at the light rail station on Shebti Israel Street in Jerusalem – and was neutralized. A 25-year-old man was moderately injured from the stabbings. The MDA team that was called to the scene gave him medical treatment and evacuated him with stab wounds to Shaare Zedek Hospital.
