AMD has terminated the RDNA 3 catalog, but the last two to arrive, the RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT, were going to have done so with a different power connector. AMD was going to include the 12VHPWR in them, at least in the reference models that it is expected to put on sale. This has been indicated by Scott Herkelman, vice president and general manager of Graphics at AMD, and the most visible face right now in everything related to Radeons.

We had no plans to use the new power cord for the 7900 or 7600 series, but we did for the 7700 and 7800. We removed it, and it was on purpose. You shouldn’t blame users for your problems. You should hunt down and eliminate any issues, just like we did with the steam chamber issue. I kept an eye on social media because I felt it was AMD’s problem and I was going to beat it.

Until the power issue is cleared up and there is complete confidence that it works correctly with end users, that is when you will see that we will incorporate it into our planning. The ability for someone to say it’s end-user error is foreign to us at AMD and definitely foreign to me.
