The rise of the extreme right in the United States and in Europe has not left critical and contestatory literary currents indifferent. This is the case with the so-called “poetry of conscience”, of which the poet, columnist and essayist Antonio Orihuela is the banner. Within the framework of the Voix Vives de Toledo International Poetry Festival, we have interviewed this writer from Huelva live, from the Obrador Masa Madre, on the occasion of the publication of ‘Sin fin’, a personal anthology of his last three decades at the service of the critical poetry. After that, Orihuela recites some of his poems:

“In the face of hate speech, a popular front has been organized almost in the manner of 36”, Orihuela said during the interview, also detailing in this scenario, “seeing the PSOE willing to form a government with parties that are really to the left is one of the few hopes we have left” against far-right parties like Vox.

The poet also reviews the construction of this “hate and a half” speech, the role that the great economic and financial powers must play in order to destroy “the monster they have created” and how the poetry of critical consciousness can, from its “little call to action” to help dismantle these “empty and populist” messages.
