Mexican Foreign Minister proposed the United States to create an analogue of the European Union

by time news

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard invited the US authorities to consider the possibility of creating a union in the Western Hemisphere like the European Union (EU). He considers the Organization of American States (OAS), which includes 35 states, to be outdated.

“Mexico has offered the US to move towards creating a union that will be more similar to the EU. The Organization of American States is already very outdated. So it was suggested that we create something different, but that will depend on the strength that we, the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, will show together. If we are united, we will succeed, ”the Mexican diplomat said at the meeting of the Foreign Ministry of the Member States of the Community of Latin America and the Caribbean (CELAC), which took place in Argentina (quoted by TASS).

This is not the first time that Mexico has made such a statement. In July 2021, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the summit of the Foreign Ministers of the Latin American and Caribbean States in Mexico City proposed Latin American countries to consider the possibility of creating a regional union like the EU.
