Nashville Woman Sets Guinness World Record for Longest Female Mullet

NASHVILLE — Tami Manis, a 58-year-old resident of Tennessee, has officially claimed the title for having the longest female mullet in the world. Measuring at an impressive 5 feet 8 inches, her mullet has caught the attention of many.

According to Guinness World Records, Manis last cut the back of her hair on February 9, 1990, making her mullet 32 years old. In a video posted by Guinness World Records, Manis revealed that most people only notice the length of her hair when she turns around.

Manis explained that her inspiration to grow a mullet stems from the 1980s when the style was popular. She specifically mentioned being influenced by the music video of Til Tuesday’s “Voices Carry,” where one of the band members had a rat tail. “The girl had a rat tail, and I really wanted one of those,” said Manis.

After initially cutting off her mullet in November 1989, Manis quickly regretted her decision and decided to grow it out again the following year. Since then, she has never looked back.

Manis revealed that she keeps her mullet braided most of the time and tucks the tail into her pocket when riding her motorbike. Her friend helps her with braiding once a week, and she dries her hair with paper towels to avoid keeping it wet.

While mullets are commonly associated with the 1980s, they actually have a history dating back centuries. Even the Greek poet Homer mentioned spearmen with long hair in the backs in “The Iliad” written in the 8th century BC.

Having her distinctive mullet has allowed people to recognize Manis even from more than two decades ago, and it has become a topic of conversation among her friends and family. Last year, she even participated in the 2022 US Mullet Championships and secured second place in the “Femullet” division, winning a $300 prize.

Encouraged by her success at the championships, Manis decided to apply for the Guinness World Record. After a long process, which involved filming her hair to demonstrate its length, she finally received a package on her front porch, informing her of her official world record.

“When I opened it, I thought, ‘this is amazing,'” exclaimed Manis.

Manis’s remarkable achievement has garnered attention and admiration from people all around the world, proving that mullets are not just a trend of the past but can still make a statement in the present.
