This triumphal Victory Column (Siegessäule) was erected in the center of the Tiergarten park in Berlin by the will of the Prussian King and German Emperor Wilhelm I in memory of the military successes of Prussia in the 19th century – honoring the victories over Denmark, Austria and France.

At the top of the national monument to the unification wars of Germany, there is a sculpture of the goddess of victory, Victoria.

Residents of the German capital call this figure “Golden Elsa” (Goldelse). The comic nickname is associated with the novel of the same name by Eugenia Marlitt, which was popular in Berlin during the construction of the monument.

On the column, which has long become one of the symbols of the city, there is an observation deck, to which 285 steps lead.
