Thiruvananthapuram: Home Department with discussions to include transgenders in Kerala Police. The Department of Women and Child Welfare sought the views of all departments as part of its efforts to provide transgender representation in all departments. The police have now been asked to study and report on the application to the Home Department. The Home Department sought a report from the ADGP in charge of law and order and the Battalion ADGP.

Police sources said that the government has not yet received the order and therefore investigations have not started yet. Many states in India have decided to recruit transgender people. Two weeks ago, the government published an advertisement in major newspapers inviting transgender people to join the police in Karnataka. Applications were invited to the SI, Reserve Battalion List. 22 applications were received. In Tamil Nadu, there is an SI from the transgender community. In Chhattisgarh, 13 transgender people were selected as constables. Chhattisgarh will issue a notification in this regard in 2017.
