“We frequently hear from missionaries that the role of Mongolian pastoral workers and catechists is very important. In my opinion, we are very fortunate because we do not have many catechetical books in our language, but we have many missionaries who are living books”, affirmed the pastoral worker.

Rufina thanked Pope Francis for making Bishop Giorgio Marengo a Cardinal and how this has raised questions and curiosity in the Catholic community in Mongolia. She underlined the positive impact of the Synod on the understanding of the Church and parishes in Mongolia.

The testimonies reflected the deep faith and dedication of the Catholic community in Mongolia. To assist this community, there is a bishop, 25 priests (including two Mongolians), 6 seminarians, more than 30 religious, five non-priestly religious and 35 catechists. Pastoral workers come from around thirty different nationalities.

However, the challenge remains to continue announcing the Gospel in Mongolian society, where, due to long decades of state atheism during the communist regime, 39% of the population still declare themselves non-religious.
