One million new jobs will be generated by the creative economy by 2030, increasing, as a result, the sector’s current share of 3.11% in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP, the sum of all goods and services manufactured in the country).

This is indicated by a survey carried out by the National Industry Observatory (ONI), the intelligence and data analysis center of the National Industry Confederation (CNI). The creative economy currently employs 7.4 million workers in Brazil, according to data from the National Household Sample Survey (continuous PNAD), by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), for the 4th quarter of 2022. The volume may rise to 8.4 million in 2030.

“This is associated with a need for survival and innovation in society as a whole. Not only in the industry”, he said this Friday (1st) to Brazil Agency the executive manager of the Observatory, Márcio Guerra. “We estimate that professions related to the creative economy will experience significant growth,” he said.

According to Guerra, the concept of creative economy begins to expand a little more, since it is also necessary to look at the need for innovation and creativity in the production of digital content. “This digital culture should drive this demand significantly in the coming years.”

Creative economy professions are spread across different sectors, such as entrepreneurship, industry, services and the technology sector. The manager analyzed that the increase in jobs and the dynamism of the creative economy will be driven, above all, by the technological dimension, by the issue of the development of digital products.

“This axis should grow significantly, alongside the traditional creative economy, which was limited more to entrepreneurship and cultural production. Today, cultural production has a very strong digital component”.

jobs

Guerra explained that the increase in the number of jobs projected for the creative economy will occur both in the formal market, with a formal contract, and in the informal one. “This can be seen when you look at the average salary. These are functions within the formal job market that are already valued today and tend to gain more relevance in the coming years.”

The observatory’s survey shows that creative economy professionals have, on average, 1.8 years of study more than the others and receive salaries 50% higher than professionals in other areas. The average salary for creative economy professionals is BRL 4,018, while in other sectors it is around BRL 2,691.

The highest salaries are found in the technology-related part of cultural production and creativity, including application production, softwares (computer programs), designdevelopers of games (games). “These professions gain more relevance than traditional jobs. This will cause wages to increase even more in relation to the average of the Brazilian economy.”

Among the establishments of the creative economy in Brazil, 111.2 thousand are concentrated in micro and small companies, linked to the question of entrepreneurship itself, being 86,917 micro companies and 24,381 small companies. Medium and large companies together represent less than 6 thousand establishments.

There is a high concentration of creative economy companies in the Southeast (56,222) and South (31,643) of the country. Guerra argued that given the dynamics that have taken place in the economy as a whole, an interesting movement can also be seen in the North, Northeast and Midwest regions, where the number of establishments in the sector currently reaches 2,939, 16,880 and 9,438, respectively. .

Moda

In the field of entrepreneurship, the fashion category has the largest number of establishments (45,874), followed by advertising and business services (20,871), information technology services (11,712), development of software and digital games (9,771) and craft activities (8,398). “The focus on micro and small companies is generally driven by handicrafts and fashion. It is where you have more people working, from the perspective of the creative economy.”

Guerra highlighted, on the other hand, that it is not difficult to find handicrafts made with 3D technology, for example, in the big capitals. “You start to have technologies transforming these professions that used to be manual and now tend to be more technological”. Also the use of softwares begins to spread among small companies, aiming at the creation of new pieces.

The survey points out that the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), combined with automation, for example, can serve to accelerate creative processes. According to the Creative Economy Potential Development Index, the Brazilian cities with the greatest employment potential in the creative industry are Florianópolis, Vitória, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba.

In the creative industry, the survey points out that the sectors that should lead the creation of jobs are advertising and business services, development of softwares and information technology (IT) services, architecture, cinema, radio and TV and design.

national policy

Since last year, Bill 2,732/2022, which creates the National Policy for the Development of the Creative Economy, has been pending in the National Congress. The project foresees, among other measures, partnership between companies and universities for professional qualification; infrastructure development for the economic dynamics of the creative sectors; promotion and strengthening of innovation ecosystems in creative territories for local and regional development.

Márcio Guerra evaluated, however, that given the current priorities of the federal government, the discussion about this project should be in the background, although the theme is of importance for the strengthening of the economy. “But it will come,” he said. The project highlights the creative economy sector, better regulates this activity, clarifies the issue of partnerships between universities and companies, addresses investment in infrastructure, with more funds earmarked for the sector, as well as public policies.
