India on Course to Become a Developed Country by 2047, Says Prime Minister Modi
In a special interview with the PTI news agency ahead of the G20 conference, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his vision for India’s future. He stated that India is determined to eliminate corruption, casteism, and religious discrimination, emphasizing that these divisive issues have no place in the nation’s progress.
PM Modi pointed out that positive changes have already been made since India assumed the leadership of the G20. He highlighted the shift from a gross domestic product-centered view to one that is human-centered, leading to a more inclusive approach to development.
Looking ahead to 2047, the Prime Minister confidently declared that India will be a developed country, addressing the common challenges facing the nation by promoting integrated development for all. He emphasized that India’s words and policies within the G20 are seen by the world as a blueprint for the future, positioning the nation as a global leader.
PM Modi also stressed the importance of global cooperation in fighting cybercrime, stating that it is not only necessary but inevitable. He acknowledged the impact of cyber terrorism and illegal financial activities, which have become major crimes facilitated by platforms such as the Darknet, Medaverse, and cryptocurrency. The Prime Minister highlighted the need to combat fake news, which can cause confusion and social unrest.
Speaking on India’s fiscal policies, PM Modi warned against irresponsible fiscal measures, noting that while they may yield short-term political results, they can have detrimental long-term social and economic consequences, particularly affecting the poor. He pledged to take major policy stances at the right time to combat global inflation.
PM Modi pointed out that India’s leadership in the G20 has shifted the perception of the country from being a mere market to being a solution to international problems. He emphasized the theme of India’s G20 leadership, “Vasudaiva Kutumbakam,” which is derived from Indian cultural norms and guides their approach to solving the problems of the marginalized and disadvantaged.
In addition, PM Modi emphasized India’s support for Africa within the G20, as the country believes that all plans for the future must take into account the voices of all nations. He also highlighted India’s initiative in the Global Biofuel Alliance, aimed at providing energy transition options for developing countries.
The Prime Minister expressed his pride in the participation of over 1.5 crore Indians in G20 meetings held over the past year, remarking on the failures of previous administrations in gaining the confidence of the people in hosting international meetings outside of Delhi. He reassured that India will continue its creative work beyond the G20 presidency to ensure world peace.
PM Modi asserted that India supports the democratization of technology and is working towards making technology an agent of equity and inclusion. He called for a creative approach to tackling climate change rather than a restrictive one, highlighting India’s unique path to energy transition.
Responding to a question on UN reforms, PM Modi emphasized that a mid-20th-century approach will not serve the world in the 21st century. He called on international organizations to recognize changing realities and reconsider their priorities to ensure the representation of all voices.
In a separate statement on Twitter, Prime Minister Modi sought to rally support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Congress-ruled states. He expressed the BJP’s commitment to progress in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, criticizing the ruling Congress government’s perceived lack of development. Modi predicted that the BJP would emerge victorious in both states.
