The world championship leader was run over during the start of the Catalunya Grand Prix
Terrible accident at the start of the Barcelona Moto GP Grand Prix. A few seconds after the start of the race, and the first corner, several riders found themselves on the ground. And in particular the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), was hit by the South African Brad Binder (KTM) a few seconds after the start of the Grand Prix of Catalonia, 11th round out of 20 of the MotoGP championship. The leader of the provisional world championship standings, who had started from pole position, fell alone after turn 2: a loss of control of the front wheel sent him flying over his handlebars.
Bagnaia, 26, was taken to the Circuit de Catalunya medical center for tests. A few seconds earlier, five riders had fallen in the first corner: the Italian Enea Bastiannini (Ducati) missed his braking on the inside and hit the French Johann Zarco (Ducati-Pramac), and they then drove into their the Spaniard Alex Marquez (ESP/Ducati-Gresini) and the Italians Fabio Di Giannantonio (ITA/Ducati-Gresini) and Marco Bezzecchi (ITA/Ducati-VR46) fall.
A red flag was raised immediately so that the rescuers could evacuate Bagnaia and clean the track before a second start.
