Over 10 minutes of applause and standing ovations in the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema for the premiere of «Adagio», Stefano Sollima’s film in competition at Venice 80. For the sentimental gangster movie, there was the entire cast with Pierfrancesco Favino, Toni Servillo, Valerio Mastandrea, Adriano Giannini and the debutant Gianmarco Franchini.
«Adagio» is one of the six Italian films in competition at Venice 80: the film produced by The Apartment Pictures, AlterEgo and Vision Distribution effectively closes a trilogy opened by Suburra and continued with Romanzo Criminale. In a city governed by chaos and devastated by fires and the darkness of blackouts, the protagonist, 16-year-old Manuel (Franchini), is the victim of blackmail perpetrated by two corrupt carabinieri. The young man manages to lose track of him, but the blackmailers hunt him down, determined to eliminate what they consider an inconvenient witness. Manuel is thus forced to ask for protection from two former criminals, old acquaintances of his father (Servillo), played by Mastandrea and Favino.
