This is reported by BelTA.
“If we talk about the number of children who study in these 40 percent of schools, then it is about 10 percent, because these are mainly rural schools, where education is traditionally conducted in the Belarusian language,” the minister clarified.
For several years, official statistical information about the language of instruction in schools has not been published, so it is impossible to verify the minister’s statement.
Belarusians are the only state-forming nations of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the post-Soviet space, whose national language is in danger of disappearing.
At the same time, Belarus is the only independent state in the territory of the former USSR, in which the titular language of the nation does not have the status of the only state language, but shares it with the Russian language.
