UNTOUCHABLES FILM. Quadriplegic in the film, François Cluzet moves his feet in a scene from the cult comedy with millions of admissions. Did you notice it?

[Mis à jour le 3 septembre 2023 à 20h40] Even the most popular movies are not free from some small errors. This is the case ofUntouchables, a successful comedy by Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache with 19.44 million admissions. If you watch the film broadcast on TF1 this Sunday, September 3 at 9:10 p.m., you might notice a big one committed by François Cluzet!

As a reminder, the French actor embodies a very rich businessman who became a quadriplegic after a paragliding accident. He can therefore no longer move a large part of his body, and in particular his legs. However, in a scene where Driss, his life assistant played by Omar Sy, tries on new clothes, we can see François Cluzet move his feet when his character laughs! An error which fortunately did not prevent the film from conquering the public and the critics, even becoming one of the best French films according to Steven Spielberg (and the one he qualifies as the 10th best film of all time on the site Far Out, nothing less)!

The true story that inspired Intouchables

If the chemistry between Omar Sy and François Cluzet undoubtedly contributes to the success of Intouchables, it is also the moving scenario that has brought viewers and critics together. This one did not come from the imagination of the screenwriters: it was inspired by a true story, discovered by the directors in a documentary. Intouchables thus tells a fictionalized version of the life of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo, a Corsican businessman who became a quadriplegic in 1993, after a paragliding accident.

His wife dies a few years later, and he ends up sinking into a depression after the death of his wife. But it is his carer, Abdel Yasmi Sellou, who will help him get out of it and regain a taste for life: “As in the film, [Abdel] responded to my announcement to continue to touch the Assedic, then he said to himself that the mansion of the 7th was a safe to be robbed. And he stayed 15 years”, explains the businessman to Europe 1, after the release of the film in 2011. “Without him I would have died of decomposition […] he delivered me when I was a prisoner, protected me when I was weak. He made me laugh when I cracked up. He was my guardian devil”, he writes in his biographical book, Le second souffle, which devotes an entire chapter to his relationship with the carer. A great friendship which gave Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache their greatest success critics and audiences.

Synopsis – Philippe (François Cluzet) is a wealthy businessman who became a quadriplegic following a paragliding accident. While he is looking for a new carer, he meets Driss (Omar Sy) who only wants to have a form stamped for the Assedic. Intrigued by this character who denotes in this upscale environment, Philippe decides to hire Driss, although the latter has no qualifications. A true story of friendship and discovery develops between the two men, against the advice of those around Philippe, like that of Magalie (Audrey Fleurot) who watches with suspicion. With Driss, Philippe will learn that life still has surprises and many emotions in store for him.

A real success at the French box office when it was released in 2011 (19.44 million admissions!), this dramatic comedy continues to be programmed on television and followed by many viewers. A public and critical success, since this feature film even allowed Omar Sy to obtain recognition from his peers: he won the César for Best Actor for his interpretation of Driss, a young man from the suburbs who will be hired as an assistant. at home to help Philippe, a wealthy quadriplegic.
