Macron defends abaya ban

People who push the abaya,” the president thundered. “It’s a choice that invites something, that says ‘I’m different and I come to school like that'”, insists the head of state, recommending discussion and explanation between the heads of school and parents, or students. “The question of secularism is a deep question”, added Emmanuel Macron, counting approximately “500 establishments” subjected to the “pressure” of wearing this garment considered religious.
The president open to experimenting with the uniform
As mentioned by the Minister of Education Gabriel Attal on Monday, the Head of State said he was open to experimenting with the school uniform, or a “unique outfit”, such as “jeans , a t-shirt and a jacket. “The issue of unique dress is in my opinion more acceptable, may seem a little less strict from a disciplinary point of view,” he added.

Fewer vacations, more sport and culture at school
“The subject of holidays is a subject that must be open”, defended Emmanuel Macron, who wants to “rethink holidays and school time”, judging “attractive” the German model, where lessons are organized in the morning, and the he afternoon is devoted to extracurricular activities.
This model has yet to be discussed with professionals in the field, but the President of the Republic is already imagining a timetable where “each student does at least half an hour of sport per day, even an hour”, and practices a cultural activity. a few hours a week.

The President of the Republic also deplored a “collective mess” in terms of student training, estimating that “50% of young people” entering a license did not show up for final exams – or failed them. “We must have the courage to review our training, to ask ourselves if they are graduate and qualifying”, affirmed the president, saying to envisage “shorter training”, “between one and three in”, “in peripheral cities” , where life is cheaper.
Asked about the situation of unemployed young people between the ages of 18 and 25, Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed his opposition to the payment of the RSA for this category of the population. It is necessary to “empower and help” unemployed young people, encourage them to train, to go towards apprenticeship, or towards devices such as the “youth employment contract”, he insisted.
What about the purchasing power of students?
Another key subject in this back-to-school period: the purchasing power of students, undermined by inflation. For now, Emmanuel Macron has said he favors a fight for lower prices in the food industry, rather than increasing scholarships allocated to low-income students. He recalled that reusable periodic protection will be reimbursed in 2024 in pharmacies and in 2025 “on a dedicated platform”, just like condoms.
On the transport side, the president also said he was in favor of a low-cost train ticket for regional transport, similar to that at 49 euros monthly set up in Germany by Deutsche Bahn. “The Minister of Transport and the Prime Minister are carrying this idea,” said the president, who assures that a discussion is underway with the regions to put a similar system in place.
