Leonie Zimmermann found a playground for people who are courageous, colorful and a bit different in the Budapest ruin bar.
With each spin, the disco ball casts rays of light onto the walls of the old factory building. The labyrinth of winding corridors and halls, steep wooden stairs with creaking steps and colorfully thrown together retro furniture shimmers like a kaleidoscope. And every Sunday, the scent of sweet pastries and fresh coffee mixes with the hearty smell of Hungarian goulash.
The ruin bar Szimpla Kert in the Jewish Quarter of Budapest is a surreal place. Urban conservatory during the day, wild party venue at night. People from all over the world become a tight-knit community here. They come to escape their everyday life for a while.
