The first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, is in the capital of the republic, in the city of Nur-Sultan, and maintains direct contact with the head of state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Nazarbayev’s press secretary Aidos Ukibay announced this in his microblog on Twitter on Saturday, January 8.

In another message, Ukibai wrote that Nazarbayev had several telephone conversations with “the heads of states friendly to Kazakhstan.” The press secretary noted that the former head of state “calls on everyone to rally around the president of Kazakhstan to overcome current challenges and ensure the integrity” of the country.

Political scientist Dubnov: Nazarbayev in China

Meanwhile, the well-known Russian political scientist, expert on Central Asia, Arkady Dubnov, claims that Nazarbayev is in China. “Nursultan Abishevich is now on the Chinese island of Hainan, his favorite place for rest and treatment,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

Earlier, a number of media outlets reported that two private planes belonging to members of the Nazarbayev family were seen at the Bishkek international airport.
