Four years after the disappearance of “Soir 3”, it is the turn of the national news of France 3 to bid farewell to viewers. A deletion experienced as ” a burial “ by the public broadcasting unions, who are calling for a strike on Sunday 3, Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 September. Since 1986, France 3 has offered a one-hour newscast at noon and early evening, consisting of a thirty-minute national edition produced from the headquarters of France Télévisions in Paris, and another of the same duration produced by each of the 24 regional newsrooms.

As of Monday, September 4, the “12/13” and “19/20” are replaced by regional newspapers, which will continue to include topics on national and even international news. Entitled “Ici 12/13” and “Ici 19/20”, these information events, broadcast respectively from 12:25 to 12:55 and 7:15 to 8 p.m., will be produced by the 24 local newsrooms of the network. They are free to “draw” from reports and modules prepared by the national editorial staff of France Télévisions to design their news.

“We are not opposed to regionalization”

Presented in July 2022, this project called “Tempo” responds, according to Delphine Ernotte, president of France Télévisions, “to a strong expectation of the public”. “People increasingly expect the public service to report on what is happening close to their homes, particularly what is happening there that is positive, such as the dynamics of territories and associative fabrics or the role of mayors in each of their municipalities”, she argued last July, during a hearing before the Finance Committee of the National Assembly.

The project is sharply criticized by the unions, who therefore call, for the third time in a year, the employees of France Télévisions to mobilize against this project of “low cost regionalization”.

“We are not opposed to regionalization, but not in favor of that which is only a decoy to implement clear cuts”, écrit in his press release the SNJ France Télévisions, for whom the real objective of Delphine Ernotte is, with Tempo, from “give “pledges” to the supervisory ministries », in a context of budgetary restrictions.

“The management refused our request to postpone things to have a serene deployment”, regrets Pierre Mouchel, secretary general CGT France Télévisions, to AFP. But the zero numbers made lately “revealed that things on the air were still very messy,” he believes.

Requested by AFP, management is aware that this transformation “causes concern” but believes that “the teams and all the employees concerned have been working on it for a year and we are ready”. Pierre Mouchel, of the CGT, plans rather “an arm wrestling that is likely to last”, particularly on the adjustment of working conditions, the trade unionist not excluding “relaunch the mobilization” in the event of unsuccessful negotiations.
