In the morning, President Petr Pavel visited the elementary school in Bukovany near Sokolov and the elementary and kindergarten in Sadov in the Karlovy Vary Region. In front of the school, the principal Andrea Csorbová and her deputy welcomed him, 15 of the 17 enrolled first graders and their parents were waiting for him in the classroom. Prvnákov said that the important thing is not to be the best, but the best as possible.
“You will remember this day for the rest of your life. It’s a big change in your life, you’ve been playing until now and now you’ll have to learn. Everyone will enjoy something, the worst thing that could happen to you is that you don’t enjoy anything,” Pavel told the children. He also told them to read. “Books are not the enemy, but a window to the world. Books are a beautiful thing,” Pavel stated.

The President from Bukovany traveled to Sadov in the Karlovy Vary district, where he visited the Elementary and Kindergarten of the Karlovy Vary Region, where he also welcomed the first-graders and asked them if they were looking forward to school and what they were looking forward to. “You’ll learn something new, something you’ll enjoy, something different for everyone,” he said. He wished them success, that they should not be afraid at school and that they would like it there. He gave the pupils the book Povídání a pejskovi a kočicce by Josef Čapek and also told the children in Sadov to find a way to read, that reading will enrich them. At the end, the president took a picture with the pupils.
“By visiting these schools, I wanted to show that the region is not forgotten, that we remember the problems it has,” Pavel said after the visits why he chose the Karlovy Vary region. “Often it doesn’t matter what region the school is in, but what the atmosphere is like, what kind of teachers it has,” he added. He evaluated the atmosphere in the visited schools as good.
According to him, the older children he saw were excited about the start of the school year. “You could see that they were enjoying the return to school. There was definitely no depression.” the president stated.
He praised how the cooperative school in Sadová works. According to him, parents should not be alarmed by such a concept. Regarding the financing of education after the current savings, Pavel said that he would wait until the final draft and then comment.
