The youth workshop in Erlangen and its trainees are happy about 15,000 euros. The Diakonie Erlangen facility receives this sum from the Fürth Manfred Roth Foundation (Norma). Foundation board member Wilhelm Polster and foundation board member Klaus J. Teichmann handed over the check – and got an idea of the work in the youth workshop in Erlangen.

Young women and men who complete their training in the youth workshop receive the foundation for life here. “In a two-year full-time apprenticeship, they acquire their journeyman’s certificate as a carpenter in our training company,” explains facility manager Wolfgang Gremer. “We train young people who are disadvantaged for various reasons, such as mental health problems or their ethnic background. Access to the first job market is difficult for them for a variety of reasons.”

Donations are necessary

14 trainees are currently being trained as specialists in the Eltersdorf workshop. With great success: Almost 100 percent of graduates make the leap into permanent employment on the primary job market. “The money from the Manfred Roth Foundation goes entirely into the training of young people. The annual costs for each trainee exceed 40,000 euros. Our work would not be possible without donations,” Gremer continues. “On behalf of our trainees and the entire team, we would like to thank the foundation.”

Kai Stähler, chairman of the board of directors of the group of companies consisting of Stadtmission Nürnberg and Diakonie Erlangen, also appreciates the commitment of the Manfred Roth Foundation: “This support is very important for us. With the help of the donation, we can give young people who have fallen through the cracks elsewhere a real perspective for their lives. I would therefore like to thank you very much for this generous support.”

Since 2014, the Manfred Roth Foundation has regularly supported facilities and projects of the Nuremberg City Mission and the Erlangen Diakonie. The foundation is named after the entrepreneur Manfred Roth, who died in 2010 and is known as the successful founder of the Norma discount chain.

Foundation helps young people

Today there are around 1450 Norma branches in Germany, France, the Czech Republic and Austria. In the spirit of Manfred Roth, the foundation named after him consistently continues its work and makes donations for social, cultural, educational and scientific institutions and projects. According to Wilhelm Polster, foundation funds should “support families, children and young people in need and benefit people directly”, underscoring the charitable aim of the foundation. “That’s why we are very happy to be involved in the youth workshop in Erlangen,” says foundation board member Klaus J. Teichmann. red
