Former Head of Mossad, Shabti Shavit, Passes Away at Age 84 During Vacation in Italy

Former senior official of the Mossad, Aharon Sharaf, spoke this morning about the tragic events that occurred during a joint trip with the late former head of the Mossad, Shabti Shavit. Shavit, who was 84 years old, passed away while on vacation in Italy.

Sharaf described the circumstances leading up to Shavit’s death. The two were in Sicily, where stormy weather and strong winds prevailed. Despite his health condition, Shavit chose to continue with the trip. Sharaf praised Shavit’s determination and courage to face challenges, saying that he always knew how to climb as high as possible.

According to Sharaf, Shavit began to feel ill during their descent from an altitude of nearly three thousand meters. With the assistance of two friends, an ambulance was called and Shavit was transported to a helipad. From there, he was airlifted to a hospital. Despite tremendous efforts by medical staff, Shavit’s heart could not withstand the strain and he passed away.

Speaking about Shavit’s tenure as head of the Mossad, Sharaf noted his innovative and level-headed approach. In his first week in office, Shavit gathered the senior staff of the Mossad and emphasized the importance of clarity and purpose. He encouraged them to write down the mission of the Mossad and display it in every office. This move demonstrated Shavit’s unique way of thinking and leadership style.

Describing Shavit as a modest individual, Sharaf mentioned that his name was never revealed during his time as the head of the Mossad. He was an enigma to those around him, as even his neighbors were unaware of his prominent position.

In his concluding remarks, Sharaf expressed Shavit’s unwavering love for his homeland, stating that his mouth and heart were always in sync. As of now, preparations are underway to bring Shavit’s body back to Israel, and a date for the funeral will be determined.
