ROOTS AND AVANGUARD IN TERRITORY

The International Festival of Performance Art of Ibiza, directed and curated by Isa Sanz, brings together for the fourth consecutive year an outstanding selection of artists from all over the world who work with the living arts, delving into the practice, reflection and learning of action art In any case, the objective is to “close distances and lose fear of live arts”, as well as to connect artists and the public through the body in a specific context linked to the territory.

This fourth edition will take place from September 13 to 24, 2023 and will take place in different locations in Ibiza under the motto “Raíz y Vanguardia”. For twelve days, the island will host different activities around action art with a program of performances, workshops, conferences, audiovisual sessions, a professional session and an exhibition.

Since it began its journey in 2020, Territori has opted for a high presence of women or non-binary people (more than half). This year it is worth noting Nieves Correa (Spain), Sarah Trouche (France), Ana Matey (Spain) and Isabel León (Spain) with their Exchange Live Art project or Marina Barsy Janer (Puerto Rico) together with Isil Sol Vil (Spain). . Efforts have also been made to promote island creation through the Open Call Balearic call, which this year includes works by Joanna Hruby (Ibiza), Kaori Ishihara (Menorca), Mariana Mazzarino (Formentera) and Loli Pamboli, alter ego of Alejandro Fuster ( Mallorca), among other artists, who will carry out a series of actions site specific linked to the Mediterranean Sea.

As a novelty, this year a hybrid territory between performance and comedy will be experienced at the hands of the clown Alicia Maravillas, who will present a piece of research and approach to action art from a fun and educational perspective that allows this discipline to be brought to all audiences.

One of the main axes of the festival is training, for which different activities have been programmed that aim to bring the performance closer to all audiences and, particularly, to young people, such as IES students. sa Blanca Dona and the Escola d’Art d’Eivissa. The curator and art historian Susana Blas (Spain) will offer the talk “I bleed in inches. Notes on performance, technology… and Spirituality”in which he will reflect on the ritual encounter between the body, spirituality and technology, analyzing works by referential artists in this field.

Finally, there will be a professional day of an open and participatory nature that will bring together artists, cultural agents, curators and journalists to discuss some questions about the living arts in the present. Under the title “Living Arts, what for?”, the introduction will be given by the art historian Marta Mantecón, followed by a dialogue with the artist Nieves Correa and a discussion that will include the participation of the cultural journalist and presenter of the Fluido Rosa program on RNE Rosa Pérez together with other speakers.
