The European Commission has approved a budget of 411 million euros, charged to the European Regional Development Fund, for the construction of the Nonduermas-Vera and Los Arejos-El Puche sections of the Murcia-Almería high-speed line.

The investment will go to the Nonduermas-Vera and Los Arejos-El Puche section, on the high-speed line between Murcia and Almeria. strategy to improve the connection of the Mediterranean corridor to the Trans-European Transport Network, make long-distance passenger services faster, more frequent and more reliable, while optimizing operations.
The entire line will be electrified and will be equipped with the ERTMS level 2 signaling system and maximum security technology. The layout has been designed for passenger train traffic of up to four hundred metres, which will have the capacity to travel at more than 250 km/h, and goods up to 750 meters in length and speeds of up to 100 km/h.
With the standard track gauge throughout the corridor, interoperability will be guaranteed and bottlenecks due to the transfer of products and cargo between convoys at the border with France will be eliminated. Although most of the financing for this project is included in the 2014-2020 programming period that ends at the end of this year, the European Commission foresees that new infrastructure, electrification and signaling system works will be co-financed in the 2021 period. -2027.
