The first African climate summit ended on September 6 in Nairobi, Kenya. In their final declaration, the continent’s leaders call for the creation of a carbon tax on fossil fuels to finance investments in renewables. The call comes as oil companies posted record profits in 2022 but have also recently scaled back their climate ambitions.
