Almaty കരി Former Prime Minister and former chairman of the National Security Council Karim Massimov has been arrested on treason charges for aiding and abetting a violent uprising in Kazakhstan over rising fuel prices. Last week, Massimov was removed from the presidency by President Qasim Johart Tokayev. Massimov was twice prime minister when Nursultan Nazarbayev was president. Despite the resignation of the government and the declaration of a state of emergency in the country, the agitation continues. It is estimated that 26 people were killed in the police firing. Eighteen security personnel were also killed in the violence. 4400 people have been arrested.
