The financial results of Thoonsen Trading, the European leader in the market for anti-theft rings, are looking good. At the close of the results at the end of September, the SME, founded in Châteauroux (Indre) in 2004, posted growth of 20%, bringing its turnover to 12 million euros. This tremor is largely explained by “the resurgence of thefts in stores”, observes Jacky Thoonsen, the CEO of this company which employs 45 employees.

The phenomenon has particularly increased in self-service checkouts. “Supermarket margins are eroding. In a context of very strong competition, it is quite understandable that they are very careful about what is called shrinkage, theft, ”he defends.

80% of lock sales for the alcohol department

Its flagship product, the Cercol, an anti-theft accessory attached to the neck of bottles, sells more than 100,000 copies per month. “Eighty percent of our sales are dedicated to the liquor department. A major brand has just ordered 200,000 locks from us for France and 80,000 for Bulgaria. »

The concern of supermarket bosses is pushing Jacky Thoonsen to innovate and adapt his accessories to new product formats such as meat “and anything with high added value”. It has just made its first sales, in France, of locks for powdered milk cans, an accessory very present in English stores.

Anti-theft devices now represent 60% of Castelroussine’s turnover, the remaining part being provided by the store fitting activity, which is itself growing.
