On Friday the 1st, Russia declared that it had finalized the construction of the RS-28 Sarmat missile, now ready for use. The armament, which weighs more than 200 tons, is also known as Satã-2.

With a “full tank”, it can cover a distance of up to 18 thousand kilometers. Such a capability would guarantee hitting “targets at virtually unlimited distances”, according to Dmitry Rogozin, director general of the Russian space agency, the Roscosmos.

More powerful

The Satã-2 stands out not only for its range. Capable of carrying up to 10 tons of explosives or up to 15 nuclear warheads, it is the most powerful missile in the Russian arsenal.

Rozogin claims it is “a missile much more powerful than other strategic weapons, including the Minuteman-III missile”, from the United States. That superiority would include both its global reach and its firepower.

Putin announced test shortly after invasion

In April 2022, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, announced that he had carried out a successful test of the Satan-2. This happened just weeks after the country invaded Ukraine.
