Lotus has just revealed the Emeya 2024, its latest electric hypercar, which joins the select “less than 3 seconds” club to reach 60 mph (about 96 km/h). This four-door sedan boasts nearly 1,000 horsepower.

The company claims that the Emeya Grand Tourer “is one of the fastest GTs in the world”, but it will take impartial testing after launch for this to be confirmed. Still, the Emeya seems incredibly fast, with a top speed of approximately 250 km/h and a reported acceleration of 0 to 96 km/h in 2.8 seconds.

Expected to enter production in early 2024, the Emeya hopes to compete with other luxury sports cars such as the Audi E-tron GT and Porsche Taycan.

That Lotus Emeya

The company stated that the Emeya will be “generically similar” to Lotus’ first electric vehicle, the Eletre SUV, which had an estimated range of approx. 498 km by EPA standard.More information is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of this year. The Emeya is likely to have a battery pack with more than 100 kWh of usable power, due to its dual-motor configuration. In addition, Lotus claims that it supports direct current fast charging of up to 350 kW, which should add approximately 150 km of autonomy in just five minutes of charging. As for the engine, the powertrain is expected to produce up to 905 horsepower and 985 Nm of torque. The aerodynamic design has been conceived to increase range, improve efficiency and drivability. An active rear diffuser, inspired by Lotus’ long history in motorsports, will help to smooth the airflow under the vehicle.Speaking of aerodynamics, a 296mm wide rear spoiler — more than 100mm wider than the Eletre’s — delivers net downforce of more than 215kg, according to Lotus. This, plus the active rear diffuser, provides exceptional stability in high speeds, a clear invitation from Lotus to its customers to explore the car’s potential.

Transition to electric

Lotus, which belongs to China’s Geely, is in the process of reinventing itself for the electric age. The Emeya will be the second of three new electric vehicles that Lotus plans to launch over the next four years, including a sports car, a coupe-sedan and another SUV. The Eletre crossover SUV had its official launch last year, with a battery capacity of over 100 kWh and 600 horsepower.

This transition to electrification aims to improve Lotus’ sales figures, which sold just 576 cars in 2022, a 62% drop from the previous year, according to Motor1. The company also reported a loss of £145.1 million for the year and may be considering cutting more than 200 jobs.
