Like France 98 for football, oval ball fever is gradually invading the country as the World Cup begins. The Aube department is no exception with several broadcasts of the clash between the XV of France and the All Blacks on giant screen, notably in Troyes this Friday evening.

Devoted mainly to football for many years, Aube currently only has 4 clubs. However, the structuring efforts initiated in Saint-André-les-Vergers are beginning to bear fruit. “We have a rugby school that is developing. We have passed 400 licenses which places us among the biggest clubs in the Grand Est. And it’s the first time that we’ve reached the national level in Federal 3,” says François Rocheteau, RCSA employee coach.

The kick-off of the Rugby World Cup will be broadcast live on a giant screen at the Espace Argence in Troyes LP/Jonathan Sottas

Champion titles with the first team, the reserve, but also the girls, all the lights are green at the start of the world competition, a highly anticipated showcase for a local club. “Rugby is watched a lot on TV. We defend the values of our sport, based on the team, respect… There are lots of great values in oval racing. And the fact of having this World Cup and a super-performing French team, capable of winning, will bring us young people! »

Big ones, strong ones, small ones, fast ones

For the educator, training is an essential lever, because the pool of players remains insufficient in Aube. The RCSA also does a lot of work to attract young people in the neighborhoods, or even by creating school sections. The message, come as you are, “We can be big, big, small… Fabien Galthié, the coach of the French XV recently said that when he saw the players get off the bus, we have the impression that we have a circus because there is everyone on a team… Big ones to catch the sideline balls, strong ones to take everything down, small ones to go get balls, and fast ones to go and score. One without the other, we can’t do it.”

This Friday evening, the public should show up and party no matter what. A state of mind dear to the world of Rugby. “There is combat in the game,” breathes François Rocheteau. “But when it’s over, at the end we shake hands, even if we weren’t friends when we were on the pitch. And then we do a third half and we all party together. It’s a great school of life because in sport and in life, you don’t win every time. If the French team is so strong, it is because it has learned from its defeats.”

From 5 p.m., activities will be offered on the square in front of the media library with a discovery of the rules of rugby. The opening ceremony will be broadcast from 7 p.m. at Espace Argence, followed by the match between France and New Zealand at 9:15 p.m. Free entry with prior registration, on site or in advance via the city of Troyes website.
