Bear Attack Prompts Investigation into Hunting Offences
Friday morning took a terrifying turn when a man was attacked by a bear in an undisclosed location. The victim’s relatives wasted no time in providing immediate treatment and alerting SOS Alarm. Emergency services and the police were quick to arrive at the scene.
According to police spokesperson Mats Öhman, the man sustained serious injuries during the attack. “He is seriously injured,” Öhman confirmed, reflecting the severity of the incident.
In light of this shocking event, the police have launched a preliminary investigation into potential serious hunting offences. Öhman revealed that bear hunting is not permitted in the area where the attack occurred. “There is no licensed bear hunting there. However, the moose hunt has begun,” he explained. The police are now delving into the circumstances surrounding the presence of these individuals and the purpose of their activities.
Öhman further emphasized that if it is determined that they were unlawfully attacked, there may be grounds for impunity. The investigation aims to shed light on the factors that contributed to this alarming incident.
Preliminary findings suggest that shots were fired at the bear, causing it to retreat into the forest. The condition of the bear remains unknown, and it is unclear whether the animal sustained any injuries. As a precautionary measure, moose hunting in the area has been halted until further notice.
Remarkably, this bear attack marks the fourth such incident in a short span of time. In August, a bear assaulted a hunter and his 14-year-old son in Ljusdal. Subsequently, there were two additional attacks on hunters in the Hammarstrand region and in Tåsjö.
Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution while venturing into bear-populated areas. Bear attacks can pose significant harm and should be approached with utmost care. The police investigation seeks to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of both hunters and local residents.
