Severe Storms and Rain Chances Expected for the Weekend

As the heat gradually loosens its grip on the region, the weather forecast for the upcoming days includes some much-needed rain but also the possibility of severe storms. Today and tomorrow, residents should be prepared for the chance of strong to severe storms, which could bring damaging winds, large hail, and heavy downpours. The humidity levels will remain quite uncomfortable for the foreseeable future.

Starting with today (Friday), the day is expected to start with some fog, but it will quickly dissipate, making way for sunshine. However, as the day progresses, rain chances will increase by mid-afternoon, with a higher possibility toward sunset. The most likely areas to be affected by severe storms are west of Interstate 95. Along with the storms, there may be gusty winds reaching up to 20 mph. With high temperatures ranging from 90 to 95 degrees, the heat index might make it feel close to 100 degrees in the sunniest spots.

Tonight, the scattered storms may continue, potentially extending into the night and bringing downpours. The temperatures will remain muggy, settling in the upper 60s to lower 70s by dawn.

Moving on to Saturday, the humidity levels will remain high, with temperatures cooling down slightly to the mid- to upper 80s. There is a possibility of showers and partly cloudy skies throughout the day. The heaviest storms, however, may hold off until later in the afternoon. Tomorrow night also carries the chance of storms, with damaging wind gusts, hail, and heavy rain still possible.

Sunday’s forecast is similar to Saturday’s, with a chance of showers and occasional cloud cover. Afternoon thunderstorms are also expected, with the risk of downpours. High temperatures may reach around 80 to the mid-80s. Sunday night could see more evening storms and downpours, but the activity is expected to diminish before midnight. Low temperatures will remain humid, ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s downtown.

Looking ahead to next week, the forecast includes continued chances of showers and storms on Monday and Tuesday, with partly sunny conditions and high temperatures ranging from 81 to 88 degrees. There is a possibility of a slight relief in humidity if dew points stay below 70 degrees.

While the rain is certainly welcomed amid the ongoing heat, residents are advised to stay weather-aware and keep an eye out for possible severe weather conditions. For the latest updates, you can follow the weather forecast on the Capital Weather YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.
